Music Highlights 1-3

I could’ve put this in the previous post, but that wall of text is tall enough already. I’ve decided that I’m going to put up two new pages, Miscellaneous (because every personal site needs a miscellaneous page) and Music Highlights.

How Music Highlights will work is this: when I find some cool, seemingly obscure (at least to me) video game or anime music that stands out to me, I’ll share it with you guys in an update and put it in that section. It currently has three entries:

BeatMania IIDX Soundtrack: Ki-Se-Ki

As far as the BeatMania series go, I have a lot of catching up to do. Of the countless games with their no-doubt epic soundtacks, I only know three songs from the series - namely Red Zone, Ageha, and this gem. Ki-Se-Ki’s on the short side, less than 2 minutes, but it’s my favorite of the three. It’s quite similar to White Reflection, so anyone who likes that song should definitely enjoy this one.

 

Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Soundtrack: White Reflection

I’m not very knowledgeable about Gundam. I used to watch one of the SD Gundam shows (dunno which one, it had some 3-D in it) when I was younger, but that’s about it. So then not too long ago I was watching LuizPrower’s playthrough of Cave Story’s final level and he used this for the final boss battle. It’s just… I don’t know how to describe it… it’s a different kind of epic. It’s emotionally epic. Whenever I listen to this song, I feel happy. Just listen for yourself!

 

Any and Every Touhou song.

ZUN has the Midas touch of music. Everything he touches sounds like gold. To pick a favorite Touhou song would be like picking your favorite sip of coffee. Well, I don’t actually drink coffee, so I guess I can’t really make that comparison, but you get the idea. To top it off, there are hundreds of thousands of remixes of these songs that just make them more awesome. I’m not gonna post any here because, like I said, I can’t pick favorites. Just search “touhou theme” on YouTube (sans quotes) and prepare to be enlightened.

The War Rages On… And Still More Random Stuff

I finally managed to tear myself away from that whole DMCA business to post this, but even as I type this I worry about who’s going down next. The situation as I currently see it: We have CONJOPI, whom I can safely assume is a group now, who can hack their way around the flagging system and possibly DMCA counter-claims, and thousands of fakers claiming to be part of CONJOPI who are causing panic and may or may not be taking down people themselves. At this point, it looks like too much damage will be done before the situation settles…

In other news, I was taken, along with some other family members staying with us at the moment, to see Despicable Me again. I came along thinking that they would be dropped off at the movie and then Kirk and I would be taken to Walmart. Nope, we all watched it together, then we all went to Walmart together, then dinner out, then home. Still, DM is a great movie and it was still great the second time around, not something you can say for all movies. One thing I noticed this time around, the thing I called “spoonicorn” isn’t actually a spoon, but I’m still gonna call it that for consistency’s sake.

At Walmart, I noticed they STILL had Starlow in the Dragon Quest IX display! The misplaced Cosmopolitan was gone, though. I got myself an Action Replay so I can finally access those events I missed on Pearl/Platinum/SoulSilver!

So… yeah.

Youtube’s Really Screwed Up Now

So, the situation in a nutshell:

Trolls abuse the DMCA report system to illegally suspend popular Youtubers, including Let’s Player giants NintendoCapriSun and Chuggaaconroy – whom I think were YOUTUBE PARTNERS – and Youtube/Google does nothing about it. Want to file a counter-claim against these jerks? Oops, sorry, they hacked the system and now they have your personal info! Better hope your house doesn’t get robbed because they put up your home address up online for everyone to see! Youtube/Google still does nothing about it. Want to complain about all of this? Sorry, there’s no way to directly contact Youtube or Google staff, aside from the support forum which they never answer except with automated messages! Now someone representing the Youtube community comes to a conference and complains about this ENORMOUS security problem, asks them if they will do anything about it. How do they respond? “I don’t know, it’s a posssibility, we might at some point.” And “Never say never on that.”

This a joke? Ha-ha-ha. How utterly hilarious. SEE FOR YOURSELF!

I smell a class-action lawsuit! No, SEVERAL class-action lawsuits! This stuff has gone on for long enough! Someone needs to organize all affected by this injustice into a forum/website/whatever specially made for the situation, then we, the Youtube community, the people they MAKE MONEY OFF OF, can talk about suing the pants off of Google/Youtube, getting NCS and Chuggaa back, and bringing the trolls to justice!

Well… I don’t think I would be the best person to do that. But I’ve got an idea on how I can contribute: I’m compiling a list of Conjopi accounts, and I could start an interactive chain letter - send the list it to a few friends and family members, who will add any suspected or confirmed CONJOPI accounts, then pass it on, rinse and repeat. This way, the list will circulate around, possibly get more attention to the situation and allow people to keep track of the different aliases this jerk/these jerks go by. Please leave a comment including your opinions about this, whether or not you think I should do it, possible alternatives, etc.

EDIT: A friend of mine, Garry12gg, has become a target of MrNoobaLot1632 and MrNoobaIot1632, two of Conjopi’s alternate accounts! Please support him, and also realize that Conjopi could go after me, redwallfan123, gordy12gg and any other of Garry’s friends as well… he probably will after all of this… I have all of my videos backed up, thank god.

Composition Creativity Catastrophe…

A lot of artists look back on their old works and shun them, wishing they could be erased from their memory. I envy those people.

Back when I first started composing for Rokkit, I didn’t know as much about music theory as I do now (not to say I’m an expert or anything). I didn’t have as good a grasp on the software and could only do simple stuff. Some songs didn’t have a bassline or whatever… But as a result, the overall melody had to be stronger, more unique. Now, I finally know how to adjust the volume and reverb through envelopes, I have all the necessary tracks, and I understand the instruments better… my songs sound more “complete”, they’re more pleasing on the ears. But the melody seems to suffer. I can no longer listen to my music and say, “that sounds like Rokkit music.” Some tracks are starting  to sound more generic. The rest give me a sort of “deja vu” feeling; they sound as if they came from other games. 

For instance, take this track I whipped up this morning. It’s supposed to be for the second level of the game, the Islands stage:

Notice how it sounds a lot like it belongs in Wario Land: Shake It? I have a feeling I may have even subconsciously reproduced parts from songs in the game… I never intended this! Is this just a phase all composers go through, or am I actually losing my originality? I desperately want to get out of this rut, get back to the kind of compositions I had when I was relatively inexperienced… But I don’t know how…

Buncha Random Stuff

I got Tales of Monkey Island 2 on WiiWare (already watched episode 1 on Youtube =P) and beat it yesterday, and now I’m looking forward to the rest! Also, I’ve been told that Noitu Love 2 is coming to WiiWare! I never played it ’cause I’ve been hesitant about spending money on Indie games, but I watched NakaTeleeli’s LP of it (which is how I found out about the guy) so I can’t wait for it! Now, the only issue left is my apparent lack of Wii points…

And while I’m at it, I’m working on redoing a cutscene in Rokkit because it’s not awesome enough. The changes shouldn’t be that hard to do. I’ll put a video on the Rokkit site when it’s done.

“Curse You, Tiny Little Toilet!”

We stopped at Walmart today on the way to a movie and browsed the electronics section. I noticed that their display for Dragon Quest IX had Starlow from Mario & Luigi 3, so I told the woman at the register and for some strange reason she looked at me like I was crazy! (=D)  We also found an issue of Cosmopolitan by the games – to be more specific, under the Nintendo DS peripherals across from the Wii games! (XD)

Afterwards, we went to see Despicable Me. Awesome movie, had a lot of hilarious scenes and quotes, of which I can only remember two at the moment: One being the post name, the other being “he punched the shark!” Feel free to share your favorite quotes and/or moments in the comments.

And I don’t care what anyone thinks, the spoonicorn was the real hero of the movie.

Edit: Also, the Rotten Tomatoes review. They say it’s okay, then give it a 92%? What?

Dangerous Troll attacking YouTube

Just recently, I’ve been informed by Kirk064 that a troll most commonly known as CONJOPI has been closing famous YouTube accounts, including the super-popular Let’s Player NintendoCapriSun. This fellow uses a dynamic IP and has many different usernames, making him difficult to stop. He’s supposedly being taken to court, but as a precaution, I have hidden my channel and am currently making all of my videos private until this boils over. I apologize to anyone who enjoyed my vids, but better sfe than sorry…

EDIT: Apparently, that’s not going to help, because NCS did the same yet CONJOPI still got him. I’m just gonna have my videos backed up and hope the bastard doesn’t get to me before he’s arrested.
EDIT EDIT: Apparently the CONJOPI account has been suspended. However, he’s probably still got his backup accounts, so…
